Helping gym owners manage payments and members

In the fitness CRM space, there are many competitors for different audiences. Popular platforms like Mindbody capture a lot of business accounts, but they’re not geared to martial arts businesses and their unique demands. As a result, martial arts business owners use less maintained smaller tools like Zen Planner and My Studio. These tools are run by smaller companies with smaller development teams. The design is often antiquated and an after thought. Payments, if handled at all, are often marked up with exorbitant fees. Being a relatively small yet captured audience these businesses are forced to deal with a small number of poor competitors, relative to larger companies that are more consumer friendly but are not designed for martial arts gym needs.

Dojo Planner seeks to remedy this by offering a platform that’s designed well for martial arts gyms and offering integrated payments with low fees by partnering with a payment processor. While other platforms either charge high fees for their own payment processing or require you integrate with Stripe, Dojo Planner struck a deal with a payment processor to have low fees. While Dojo Planner charges monthly or annually for its service, the biggest source of expenses for higher volume gyms is not the CRM subscription, but the fees on each transaction from payment processors like Stripe.

The design process involved extensive market and user research including user interviews and competitive analysis. Our company used several tools such as My Studio and Zen Planner internally before making our own platform to be open to the public. This project is currently under development.
